July 2013: Sanketh
Q. Firstly, how and when did you become a Doctor Who fan?
A. I kept seeing a lot of Doctor Who references on Facebook so I thought I'll start watching. Then I went through the Wikipedia page of Doctor Who and I was amazed the very instant, knowing that there have been 11 Doctors in 50 years. Hence, the journey began for me on one morning of May 2013.
Q. It's been announced that Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year. Are you ready to say goodbye to the Eleventh Doctor?
A. Definitely not. But as Matt Smith says, "You gotta go when you gotta go". So I'm looking forward to his last two episodes (thinking in the back of my mind that the crew is playing a practical joke on all of us).
Matt Smith will be a story in our head. But that's OK. We're all stories, in the end. And he made it a good one. Because it was, you know, it was the best. A daft old man, who stole a magic box and ran away.
Q. Before Matt does leave at Christmas, though, we've got the momentous 50th anniversary episode to enjoy in November! What are your hopes for the movie-length 3D special?
A. I've been waiting. And I shall have to wait some more. I stayed awake until 3 waiting for the trailers only to realize the next day that there isn't going to be one for the people on the internet. And if the crew want to keep it so secretive, I think it's going to be much more amazing than The Name of the Doctor.
Q. The landmark adventure will feature the returns of David Tennant and Billie Piper as the Tenth Doctor and Rose. Are you excited to have them back?
A. Having the Tenth Doctor and Rose back on the show are going to bring back the old memories of the relationship they shared. But knowing Steven Moffat, having the two Doctors, Rose, Clara, the Daleks and John Hurt all in the same episode is probably going to kill us all. So yeah, I'm excited.
Q. Series 7 reached its epic conclusion in The Name of the Doctor. What was your reaction to its shock cliffhanger?
A. I was like "Whaaaaaaaa!!!". And then I looked up John Hurt and read about him and then saw the entire episode again immediately.
Q. Which Doctor Who companion - past or present - would you say you relate to most?
A. Mickey Smith I think. I would not back down from a fight if it is for the right reasons. And I'm a tech savy guy.
Q. What's your most cherished piece of Doctor Who merchandise that you own and why?
A. I have none. Can't get it that easily here. But I am planning to get myself a red bow tie before the 50th.
Q. What would you say is the best thing about being a part of the Whovian fandom?
A. That there are others out there. On Twitter, on Facebook, on Tumblr and amazing people like you who set up dedicated websites for us Whovians. It helps share the feels and know that we are not alone. Also, there is the "bigger on the inside" thingy hat makes me think... how?
Q. Finally, is there anything else you'd like to add before you go?
A. You are amazing people because of the news that you are so regular in putting up. You help keep us Whovians sane. We love you. I love you.
