June 2013: Joe
Q. Firstly, how and when did you become a Doctor Who fan?
A. My mother, having watched the Doctor's adventures as a child, introduced me when the show made its comeback in 2005. It seems weird that I've been watching it for 8 years now, and I have no intention to stop. As the show developed, so did my love for it.
Q. The big news this month has been the announcement that Matt Smith will be leaving Doctor Who at the end of the year. Arthur Darvill has said it's the right time but are you ready to say goodbye to the Eleventh Doctor?
A. Of course it's always sad to see a Doctor depart, but at the same time, it's great to see another one come in. I will miss Matt dearly, and will definitely follow his career in the future. In some way though, I agree with Arthur. Change has always been a big part of the show's history.
Q. Before Matt does leave at Christmas, though, we've got the momentous 50th anniversary episode to enjoy in November! What are your hopes for the 3D special?
A. I have all the predictable hopes like monsters returning and references to old companions, but to be honest, I have faith that the special will exceed any expectations I have. I can't wait!
Q. The landmark adventure will feature the returns of David Tennant and Billie Piper as the Tenth Doctor and Rose. Are you excited to have them back?
A. Of course! The show wouldn't be what it is today if it wasn't for them, and they wouldn't be where they are today if it wasn't for the show. I just hope it doesn't lead to another goodbye between the Doctor and Rose. I don't think my heart could cope with it!
Q. Series 7 reached its epic conclusion last month in The Name of the Doctor. What were your highlights of the series as a whole?
A. My favourite episode of the whole of series seven was Asylum of the Daleks. It sends shivers down my spine when I think of the Daleks asking "Doctor Who?". I also adored the incorporation of past Doctors to the series finale. Seeing William Hartnell again made my heart skip!
Q. Which Doctor Who companion - past or present - would you say you relate to most?
A. River Song. I know so much about the Doctor's life and adore his adventures. I'm confident and quirky, and let's face it, who wouldn't flirt with the Doctor if you were around him?
Q. What's your most cherished piece of Doctor Who merchandise that you own and why?
A. Given to me as a gift, a fuzzy animal called Totoro from the film 'My Neighbour Totoro'. It's wearing a bowtie and holding a sonic screwdriver. It's unique and is very special to me.
Q. What would you say is the best thing about being an honourary Whovian?
A. I just love the perspective on the world, and the universe, that Whovians have. Since watching Doctor Who, I have changed the way I think. I'd also say that I am more of an opportunist.
Q. Finally, is there anything else you'd like to add before you go?
A. Thanks for this website and the work you guys and gals put into it. Bring on 23rd November!
