Smith and Jones
Series 3 Episode 1
For Martha Jones, a medical student in Central London, an ordinary day turns into a nightmare when her entire hospital is transported to the Moon. There, she has to battle the Judoon and outwit a blood-sucking Plasmavore – but can she trust a mysterious stranger called the Doctor?
  • The tagline for the launch of the third series was 'When two worlds collide, anything can happen'. Although this is aimed at the Doctor meeting Martha Jones, this could be an early reference to the events of the series finale (the Master cannabalises the TARDIS to allow the past and future to collide and run parallel to each other without changing the course of history).
  • This episode introduces the character of Martha Jones, played by Freema Agyeman. It also marks the first appearances of her family: her mum, Francine, played by Adjoa Andoh; her sister, Tish, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw; her brother, Leo, played by Reggie Yates, and her dad, Clive, played by Trevor Laird. We also meet her dad's new girlfriend, Annalise, played by Kimmi Richards.
  • In this episode we learn that Adeola Oshodi - the character Freema Agyeman played in Army of Ghosts - was Martha's cousin.
