  • Part one of a three-part story.
  • This episode marks the return of Captain Jack Harkness, played by John Barrowman, last seen in Doctor Who in The Parting of the Ways. Since his appearance in Series 1, he's been busy working at the Cardiff branch of Torchwood.
  • The beginning of this episode continues on directly from the end of the first series of Torchwood. The cliffhanger for End of Days sees Jack hear the TARDIS in the Hub, and when the rest of the team return, he's gone.John Bell, aged 9, won his role in this episode through a Blue Peter competition.
  • This episode will go down in history because it introduces the fifth and sixth incarnations of the Master, last seen in in the 1996 TV movie.
