Journey's End (Part II)
Series 4 Episode 13
The Doctor is helpless, and even the TARDIS faces destruction. The only hope lies with the Doctor's secret army of companions - but as they join forces to battle Davros himself, the prophecy declares that one of them will die.
Trivia
  • Part two of a two-part story.
  • This episode had a completely different ending in the first draft of the script. When the TARDIS left Donna's house, Donna turned around and listened, before dismissing the noise and carrying on with her phone conversation.
  • The episode also had a cliffhanger. Originally, the Cybermen appeared in the TARDIS behind the Doctor, leading into the Christmas special.
  • Both of these scenes were cut from the final episode. The first was removed because Julie Gardner felt that if Donna recognised the noise of the TARDIS, she would probably recognise the Doctor as well. Meanwhile, the cliffhanger was cut because it was felt that, following the events of the episode, the story should end with the Doctor alone in the TARDIS, rather than rushing straight into a new adventure.
  • 'Osterhagen' is an anagram of 'Earth's gone'.
  • Davros recognises Sarah Jane, and vice versa, from the 1975 story 'Genesis of the Daleks'.
Memorable Quotes
  • German Dalek: Exterminieren! Exterminieren! Halt! Sonst werden wir Sie exterminieren! Sie sind jetzt ein Gefangener der Daleks! Exterminieren! Exterminieren!
  • Sarah Jane: Good to see you again!
    Rose: Yeah, you too!
  • Davros: The man who abhors violence. But this is the truth, Doctor. You take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons. How many have died in your name? The Doctor, the man who keeps on running - never looking back because he dare not... out of shame. This is my final victory, Doctor. I have shown you yourself.
  • Donna: Brilliant, fantastic - molto bene! Great big Universe packed into my brain. Did you know you can fix that chameleon circuit if you just try hotwiring the fragment links and superseding the binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary - I'm fine!
  • Jackie: Jackie Tyler, Rose's mum, now where the hell is my daughter?
  • The Doctor: I just want you to know, that there are worlds out there safe in the sky because of her. That there are people living in the light, and singing songs of Donna Noble, a thousand, million light years away. They will never forget her, while she can never remember. But for one moment, one shining moment, she was the most important woman in the whole wide Universe.
Sylvia: She still is. She's my daughter!
The Doctor: Then maybe you should tell her that once in a while.
  • Rose: (About Martha) Oh, she's good!
    Martha: Who's she?
Rose: My name's Rose. Rose Tyler.
Martha: Oh my God. He found you.
