Alex Kingston

Alex Kingston was born in Surrey on 11th March 1963, and realised she wanted to become an actress during her time at secondary school. She went on to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and then at the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Her television credits include Grange Hill and The Bill, and she became a household name in America when, in 1997, she joined the long-running medical series, ER, as Elizabeth Corday.

In 2008, she made her Doctor Who debut as River Song in Series 4's Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead two-parter. She had originally believed to have said goodbye to the character forever, however she has since returned for four episodes in Series 5 alongside Matt Smith, and will be back again in Series 6 in 2011.
