[THE DOCTOR is illuminated in golden light, regenerating. Suddenly, he puts his hands together and points them at the glass jar with his hand in it. The regeneration energy beams out from his hands, pouring into the jar and the hand begins to glow. The water in the jar begins to bubble. The regeneration energy is absorbed by the hand and the light fades. CAPTAIN JACK, DONNA and ROSE all look up as the light disappears. THE DOCTOR stumbles back, out of breath, but still the same person. He breathes heavily, as each of his companions stare at him in shock. ROSE and DONNA are still teary-eyed.]
THE DOCTOR
Now then, where were we?
[He heads towards the console. DONNA stares at him, whilst ROSE and CAPTAIN JACK continue to stare at the spot where he has just been standing, stunned. It cuts to the two Daleks in front of SARAH JANE's car. She covers her head with her arms.]
DALEKS
Exterminate! Exterminate!
[Two figures teleport in on either side of the car. MICKEY and JACKIE, both armed with the same guns that ROSE has been carrying. They each aim their guns at a Dalek and both of the Daleks explode. SARAH JANE gets out of the car, shocked. Her voice is full of emotion when she speaks. She turns to MICKEY.]
SARAH JANE
Mickey!
MICKEY
Us Smiths' have gotta stick together.
[JACKIE approaches them both.]
JACKIE
Jackie Tyler, Rose's mum, now where the hell is my daughter?
[It cuts to inside the Torchwood Hub. GWEN and IANTO are both firing machine guns at a Dalek in the entrance to the Hub. GWEN is screaming as she shoots. They notice that the Dalek is not doing anything, and that none of their bullets are making contact at all. Surprised, they stop shooting. Wide-eyed, GWEN walks forward, followed by IANTO. All of their bullets are suspended in mid-air, frozen before even reaching the Dalek. Slowly, they both approach. GWEN tentatively reaches out and touches one of the bullets. The air around the bullet seems to ripple outwards, like liquid.]
GWEN
What the hell... ?
[It cuts to inside the TARDIS. THE DOCTOR is kneeling down, beaming at his golden hand in the jar, still glowing with regeneration energy.]
THE DOCTOR
There now.
[He blows away all of the regeneration energy, leaving the hand simply bubbling in the jar. He grins. He sits up so he is sitting on his knees, his arm leaning on the console.]
THE DOCTOR
You see! Used the regeneration energy to heal myself, but soon as that was done I didn't need to change, I didn't want to, why would I? Look at me.
[He smugly adjusts his tie.]
THE DOCTOR
So, to stop the energy going all the way I siphoned off the rest into a handy biomatching recepticle. Namely, my hand. That hand there. My handy spare hand.
[He stands up and addresses ROSE.]
THE DOCTOR
Remember, Christmas Day, Sycorax? Lost my hand in a sword fight. That's my hand. What do you think?
[ROSE watches him, her expression somewhat sad. She steps towards him cautiously.]
ROSE
And you're still you?
THE DOCTOR
I'm still me.
[ROSE smiles and hugs him tightly. They both grin. CAPTAIN JACK and DONNA both smile.]
DONNA
You can hug me if you want.
[CAPTAIN JACK laughs.]
DONNA
No, really, you can hug me.
[ It cuts to inside the Hub. IANTO taps at a keyboard and looks at the computer screen.]
IANTO
It's a time-lock. The ultimate defence program. Tosh was working on it, I never thought she'd finished it. But she did. The Hub's sealed in a time bubble. Nothing can get in.
GWEN
But that means we can't get out.
IANTO
Nope. Not without the lock in that Dalek. We're trapped inside. It's all up to Jack now. [He looks upwards.]
[It cuts to outside. Four Daleks are approaching the TARDIS from each corner.]
DALEK
Report: TARDIS has been located.
[It cuts to onboard the Dalek Crucible.]
SUPREME DALEK
Bring it here. Bring the Doctor to me. Initiate temporal prison.
[It cuts to back on Earth. The four Daleks move back from the TARDIS, and a ring of flickering blue light appears around it.]
DALEK
Temporal prison initiated.
[It cuts to inside the TARDIS. The lights suddenly all go out. THE DOCTOR races around the console in surprise. He flicks various switches to no avail.]
THE DOCTOR
They've got us. Power's gone! We're stuck in a kronon loop.
[The TARDIS tilts to the side with a crash, throwing THE DOCTOR and his companions off their feet. It cuts to SARAH JANE, MICKEY and JACKIE running over to the TARDIS' location. They hide behind a red van, listening to the Daleks' conversation.]
DALEK
Transferring TARDIS to the Crucible.
[The TARDIS is picked up and carried away by a tunnel of blue light. The Daleks and SARAH JANE, MICKEY and JACKIE all look up to watch it. It is flown away into the sky and out of sight.]
SARAH JANE
Those teleport things, can we use them? If they've taken the Doctor to the Dalek spaceship then that's where we need to be.
[MICKEY takes a yellow disc out of his pocket and looks at it.]
MICKEY
It's not just a teleport, it's a dimension jump. Man, this thing rips a hole in the fabric of space.
SARAH JANE
Yeah but can we use it?
MICKEY
Not yet, it burns up energy. It needs half an hour between jumps. [He puts it back in his pocket.]
SARAH JANE
Then put down your guns.
MICKEY [Incredulously]
You what?
SARAH JANE
If you're carrying a gun they'll shoot you dead.
[SARAH JANE steps out from their hiding place and raises her hands in the air.]
SARAH JANE
Daleks.
[The four Daleks turn to face her.]
SARAH JANE
I surrender.
[SARAH JANE approaches them.]
DALEK
All humans in this sector will be taken to the Crucible.
[Behind the van, JACKIE has stood.]
MICKEY
She's bloody mad.
JACKIE
Yeah, but Mickey, if they've got the Doctor then they've got Rose.
[JACKIE sets down her gun, and raises her hands in the air.]
JACKIE
And us.
[The four Daleks surrounding SARAH JANE turn to face her.]
JACKIE
We surrender.
[She walks forward. Reluctantly, MICKEY kisses his gun, puts it down and follows JACKIE. It cuts to inside MARTHA's house. She is putting the Project Indigo bodypack on, whilst FRANCINE watches.]
MARTHA
Now that Jack's explained the teleport basecode, I know how this teleport works. I think. But you just stay indoors, there's no Daleks on this street you should be alright, just keep quiet.
[MARTHA goes to stand in the corner of the room, followed by FRANCINE.]
FRANCINE
But where are you going?
MARTHA
I am a member of UNIT and they gave me the Osterhagen key! I've got to do my job.
[FRANCINE tries to approach her but MARTHA holds her hand out to stop her.]
MARTHA
I'm sorry.
FRANCINE
Martha, what's an Osterhagen key? Tell me. What does it do?
MARTHA
Love you.
[She pulls on the strings of the bodypack and disappears in a flash of purple light.]
GERMANY
60 miles outside Nuremberg
[MARTHA appears on the floor of a forest. She initially panics but soon calms down when she hears Daleks.]
DALEKS
Exterminieren! Exterminieren! Halt! Sonst werden wir Sie exterminieren! Sie sind jetzt ein Gefangener der Daleks! Exterminieren! Exterminieren!
[Four Daleks fly past, but they do not see MARTHA, hiding in the shadows. She runs away. It cuts to the TARDIS, being pulled towards the Crucible by the blue light tunnel. It cuts to inside.]
CAPTAIN JACK
There's a massive Dalek ship at the centre of the planets. They're calling it the Crucible. Guess that's our destination.
DONNA [Addressing the Doctor]
You said these planets were like an engine. But what for?
THE DOCTOR
Rose! You've been in a parallel world, that world's running ahead of this universe, you've seen the future, what was it?
ROSE
It's the darkness.
DONNA
The stars were going out.
[ROSE nods.]
ROSE
One by one. We looked up at the sky and they were just dying. Basically we've been building this, um... this travel machine, this... uh, dimension cannon so... well, so I... well I could...
THE DOCTOR
What?
ROSE
So I could come back.
[THE DOCTOR grins.]
ROSE
Shut up. Anyway, suddenly it started to work. And the dimensions started to collapse, not just in our world, not just in yours but the whole of reality, even the Void was dead. Something is destroying everything.
DONNA
In that parallel world, you said something about me.
ROSE [Turning to face her]
The dimension cannon could measure timelines. It's weird, Donna, but they all seem to converge on you.
DONNA
But why me?
[THE DOCTOR stares at her, transfixed.]
DONNA
What have I ever done? I'm a temp from Chiswick.
[The monitor bleeps suddenly and THE DOCTOR turns to it. The Crucible is flashing red on the screen, surrounded by the twenty-seven planets.]
THE DOCTOR
The diamond Crucible. All aboard.
[The TARDIS is pulled towards a massive black, circular space station. It is pulled in through a chute. It lands inside the room with the SUPREME DALEK.]
DALEK
The TARDIS is secured.
SUPREME DALEK
Doctor, you will step forth or die.
[It cuts to inside the TARDIS.]
THE DOCTOR
We'll have to go out. 'Cause if we don't they'll get in.
ROSE
You told me nothing could get through those doors.
CAPTAIN JACK
You've got extrapolator shielding.
[THE DOCTOR turns around to face them.]
THE DOCTOR
Last time we fought the Daleks they were scavengers. And hybrids, and mad. But this is a fully-fledged Dalek empire. At the height of its power. Experts at fighting TARDISes, they can do anything. Right now, that wooden door is just wood.
[It zooms in on DONNA's face, with THE DOCTOR, CAPTAIN JACK and ROSE's conversation faintly heard in the background.]
CAPTAIN JACK
What about your dimension jump?
ROSE
Well it needs another twenty minutes and anyway I'm not leaving.
THE DOCTOR
What about your teleport?
CAPTAIN JACK
Went down with the power loss.
THE DOCTOR
Right then. All of us together.
[It continues to zoom in on DONNA's face. A heartbeat can be heard loudly, as she stares blankly ahead, her eyes teary. THE DOCTOR sees her.]
THE DOCTOR
Donna?
[She continues to stare straight ahead, and THE DOCTOR walks over to her.]
THE DOCTOR
Donna!
[She turns to look at him, surprised.]
DONNA
Yeah.
THE DOCTOR
I'm sorry, there's nothing else we can do.
[She nods.]
DONNA
I know.
[THE DOCTOR nods and turns back towards the doors. It cuts to back outside the TARDIS.]
SUPREME DALEK
Surrender, Doctor, and face your Dalek masters.
DALEK
Crucible on maximum alert.
[It cuts to inside the TARDIS.]
ROSE [Smiling]
Daleks.
[She laugh nervously.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Woah god.
[He also laughs. They both smile brightly at THE DOCTOR when he turns back around.]
THE DOCTOR
It's been good though, hasn't it?
[DONNA smiles.]
THE DOCTOR
All of us. All of it. Everything we did. [Addressing DONNA] You were brilliant.
[She grins.]
THE DOCTOR [Turning to CAPTAIN JACK]
And you were brilliant.
[CAPTAIN JACK grins.]
THE DOCTOR [Addressing ROSE.]
And you were brilliant.
[ROSE smiles.]
THE DOCTOR
Blimey...
[He turns, and his expression becomes grave. He walks out, with ROSE following him, then CAPTAIN JACK. DONNA takes a deep breath then follows them. THE DOCTOR steps out.]
SUPREME DALEK
Daleks reign supreme. All hail the Daleks.
[THE DOCTOR walks away from the TARDIS, watching the hundreds of Daleks in awe. ROSE and CAPTAIN JACK both also step out of the TARDIS behind him. DONNA stops suddenly in the doorway, the Daleks' chant echoing. Back outside, THE DOCTOR watches as hundreds of Daleks fly overhead.]
THE DOCTOR
Okay...
SUPREME DALEK
Behold, Doctor. Behold the might of the true Dalek race.
[Inside the TARDIS, DONNA turns around with a slight frown. She can hear the heartbeat again. It zooms in slowly upon the console, and the hand in a jar beneath it. It cuts to back outside.]
THE DOCTOR
Donna! You're no safer in there.
[DONNA frowns and turns back to the door. It slams shut. THE DOCTOR runs to the door and inside, DONNA hits it, trying and failing to get out.]
DONNA
Doctor! What have you done?
THE DOCTOR
It wasn't me, I didn't do anything!
DONNA
Oi! Oi, I'm not staying behind!
THE DOCTOR [Turning to the SUPREME DALEK]
What did you do?
SUPREME DALEK
This is not of Dalek origin.
[DONNA continues to slam her hands against the door.]
THE DOCTOR
Stop it! She's my friend. Now open the door and let her out.
SUPREME DALEK
This is Time Lord treachery.
THE DOCTOR
It wasn't me, the door just closed on its own!
SUPREME DALEK
Nevertheless, the TARDIS is a weapon and it will be destroyed.
[The floor beneath the TARDIS disappears and the TARDIS drops down the chute. Inside the TARDIS, DONNA is knocked off her feet as things crash and break around her. THE DOCTOR runs to the gap in the floor where the TARDIS had been and looks down, watching it fall.]
THE DOCTOR
What are you doing?! Bring it back!
[The TARDIS continues to fall down the chute, DONNA clinging desperately to the railings inside.]
DONNA
Doctor!
[It cuts to back on the higher level. THE DOCTOR runs over to the SUPREME DALEK.]
THE DOCTOR
What have you done? Where's it going?
SUPREME DALEK
The Crucible has a heart of zed nutrino energy. The TARDIS will be deposited into the core.
THE DOCTOR
But you can't, you've taken the defences down. It'll be torn apart!
[The TARDIS falls into a massive ball of liquid fire. Inside, the lights are smashing one by one, and fire is raging through the grating. There are crashes going off everywhere. DONNA is screaming. She tries to get to her feet, and runs over to the console. She falls to her knees. It cuts to the blue police box being absorbed by the golden fire. It cuts back to the higher level. ROSE approaches the SUPREME DALEK, along with CAPTAIN JACK.]
ROSE
But Donna's still in there!
CAPTAIN JACK
Let her go!
[It cuts to inside the TARDIS. The console explodes and DONNA screams. It cuts back to THE DOCTOR.]
SUPREME DALEK
The female and the TARDIS will perish together. Observe.
[THE DOCTOR turns and a screen appears, which shows the TARDIS disappearing into the zed nutruno energy.]
SUPREME DALEK
The last child of Gallifrey is powerless.
[Inside the TARDIS, DONNA is choking on the smoke, as explosions continue to go off around her. THE DOCTOR turns back to the SUPREME DALEK.]
THE DOCTOR
Please, I'm begging you, I'll do anything! Put me in her place! You can do anything to me, I don't care, just get her out of there!
[Inside the TARDIS, DONNA lets out a choking sob. Suddenly, she hears the heartbeat once more. She turns to the severed hand in the jar, which is glowing and bubbling. In a daze, she slowly reaches out for it and touches it. The golden regeneration energy pours out of the hand, drifting around DONNA. Suddenly, the jar explodes in a flash of gold. THE DOCTOR watches the TARDIS on the screen, angrily.]
SUPREME DALEK
You are connected to the TARDIS, now feel it die.
[DONNA sits up, frowning. THE DOCTOR's hand is glowing brightly, and an arm is slowly beginning to form from it, out of the golden energy. The fingers twitch. The body of a man is formed out of the golden regeneration energy, whilst DONNA watches in amazement. The golden figure sits up suddenly, and the golden light drifts away to reveal THE DOCTOR NO.2 sitting there, staring straight ahead. He has no clothes on. DONNA jumps back in shock.]
DONNA
It's you!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Oh yes.
[DONNA's eyes flick downwards before she looks away.]
DONNA
You're naked!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Oh yes.
[It cuts back to THE DOCTOR. ROSE approaches him sadly, taking his hand.]
DALEK
Total TARDIS destruction in 10 rels. 9, 8, 7, 6, 5-
[Back on the TARDIS, THE DOCTOR NO.2 presses a button on the TARDIS and it dematerialises. To those watching the screen from above, it appears to have been destroyed by the zed nutrino energy.]
DALEK
4, 3, 2, 1.
SUPREME DALEK
The TARDIS has been destroyed. Now, tell me, Doctor, what do you feel? Anger? Sorrow? Despair?
THE DOCTOR
Yeah.
SUPREME DALEK
Then if emotions are so important, surely we have enhanced you.
CAPTAIN JACK
Yeah? Feel this!
[He pulls out a gun and fires a few shots at the SUPREME DALEK. The shots, of course, make no impact.]
SUPREME DALEK
Exterminate!
[He shoots and kills CAPTAIN JACK. THE DOCTOR winces and ROSE stares at him in shock, wide-eyed. CAPTAIN JACK falls to the ground. ROSE falls to her knees at his side.]
ROSE
Jack! Oh my god, oh no.
[THE DOCTOR kneels beside her and puts his arm around her.]
THE DOCTOR
Rose, come on, leave him.
ROSE
They killed him.
THE DOCTOR
I know, I'm sorry.
[THE DOCTOR and ROSE stand. THE DOCTOR holds ROSE close to him, as they both watch CAPTAIN JACK.]
SUPREME DALEK
Escort them to the Vault.
THE DOCTOR
There's nothing we can do.
SUPREME DALEK
They are the playthings of Davros now.
[THE DOCTOR leads ROSE away, with a Dalek escorting them. THE DOCTOR glances back at CAPTAIN JACK, who winks. Outside of the Crucible, the TARDIS is flying away from it. Inside, THE DOCTOR NO.2 finishes reattaching a light to the interior of the TARDIS walls. He has on a red t-shirt and THE DOCTOR's blue suit.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
All repaired, lovely. Sssh, no one knows we're here. Gotta keep quiet.
[He begins to run around the console, followed by DONNA.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Silent running, like on submarines when they can't even drop a spanner, don't drop a spanner! I like blue, what d'you think?
DONNA
You, are, bonkers!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Why? What's wrong with blue?
DONNA
Is that what Time Lords do? Lop a bit off, grow another one, you're like worms!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
No, no, no, no, no, I'm unique. Never been another like me. 'Cause all that regeneration energy went into the hand, look at my hand, [he wiggles his fingers] I love that hand, but then you touched it, WHAM!
[DONNA shrieks in surprise.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Sssh! Instantaneous biological metacrisis. I grew out of you. Still, could be worse.
DONNA
Oi, watch it, spaceman!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Oi, watch it, Earth-girl! Ooh!
[DONNA's jaw drops.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
I sound like you. I sound all... all sort of... rough.
DONNA
Oi!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Oi!
DONNA
Oi!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Spanners, sssh! I must've picked up a bit of your voice, that's all. Is it? Did I? No! Oh! You are kidding me, no way! One heart! I've got one heart! This body... has got only one heart!
[He puts his hand over his chest.]
DONNA
What... ?
[She also reaches out, and sure enough he has only one heartbeat.]
DONNA
But like you're human.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Aw, that's disgusting.
DONNA
Oi!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Oi!
DONNA
Stop it!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
No, wait, I'm... part Time Lord, part human. Well isn't that wizard?
DONNA
I kept hearing that noise. That heartbeat.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Oh yeah, that was me, yep. My single heart, 'cause I'm complicated, time and space must've rippled back. Converging on you.
[He heads over to the console.]
DONNA
But why me?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
'Cause you're special.
DONNA
Oh, I keep telling you, I'm not.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
No but you are, you're... oh. You really don't believe that, do you? I can see, Donna. What you're thinking. All that attitude, all that lip, 'cause all this time, you think you're not worth it.
DONNA
Stop it.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Shouting at the world 'cause no one's listening, well, why should they?
DONNA
Doctor, stop it.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
But look at what you did. No, it's more than that, it's like... we were always heading for this.
[There is a flashback of the huon energy particles flying into the TARDIS, then of DONNA as a bride, turning around in the TARDIS. It cuts to the present.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
You came to the TARDIS.
[There is a flashback of THE DOCTOR and DONNA seeing each other through the windows at Adipose Industries.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2 V/O
Then you found me again.
[There is a clip of WILF saluting.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2 V/O
Your grandad-
[There is a clip of DONNA getting her bags out of her car.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2 V/O
Your car!
[It cuts back to the present.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Donna, your car, you parked your car right where the TARDIS was gonna land, that's not coincidence! Ooh, we've been blind. Somebody's been drawing us together for such a long time.
DONNA
But you're talking like... destiny. But there's no such thing. Is there?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
It's still not finished. It's like... the pattern's not complete. The strands are still drawing together. But heading for what?
[It cuts to a castle on Earth. MARTHA runs towards it. A GERMAN WOMAN is standing on the steps of the castle. She is hostile.]
GERMAN WOMAN
Hier ist niemand. Was immer Sie wollen, gehen Sie fort. Lassen Sie mich in Ruhe.
MARTHA
Ich heisse Martha Jones. Ich komme von UNIT. Agentin funf, sechs, sechs, sieben, eins, von der medizinishen Abteilung.
GERMAN WOMAN
Es hiess Sie kaemen vorbei. The accent... that is London, ja? I went to London, long time ago.
MARTHA
I thought this place was supposed to be guarded.
GERMAN WOMAN
There were soldiers. Boys! I brought them food everyday. But then the Albtraum came from the sky, they went home. To die! But not you.
MARTHA
I've got a job to do.
[MARTHA walks up the steps. It cuts to her opening a door. The room she is in is full of cobwebs. She strides confidently across the room and pulls back a curtain to reveal a futuristic panel in the wall, out of touch with the antiquited decor of the room. She types into it then presses her hand into the hand-shaped outline. The GERMAN WOMAN enters the room through the shadows.]
GERMAN WOMAN
London. Those days to see it. So much glamour. One so young. I heard the soldiers talking. Many times. They would speak of the Osterhagen key. I think London must be changed now, yes? But still. The glamour.
[MARTHA is about to enter the lift as the door opens, when she hears the sound of a gun being cocked. She turns in surprise. The GERMAN WOMAN is pointing a pistol at her.]
GERMAN WOMAN
You will not go.
MARTHA
I've got no choice.
GERMAN WOMAN
I know the key. What it does. Sie sind der Albtraum. Nicht die anderen, Sie! Ich sollte Sie umbringen, am besten gleich jetzt!
MARTHA
Then do it.
[The GERMAN WOMAN lowers her gun, defeated, shaking. And MARTHA just steps into the lift.]
GERMAN WOMAN
Marta. Zur Hoelle mit Dir.
[MARTHA presses a button on the lift, and the doors begin to close.]
MARTHA
I know.
[It cuts to the Crucible. Two Daleks are overseeing the disposal of CAPTAIN JACK's body.]
DALEK
Commence disposal. Incinerate.
[CAPTAIN JACK, lying on a pile of metal junk, is put into an incinerator.]
DALEK #2
Disposal completed.
[The two Daleks leave. A few seconds later, the metal door opens up. CAPTAIN JACK crawls out of the incinerator, coughing. He runs off in the opposite direction of the two Daleks. It cuts to MARTHA, entering a small room. MARTHA takes off the Project Indigo bodypack and turns the lights on. The room is full of buttons and flickering lights, and a group of screens take up most of one of the walls. The door closes behind her. She takes the Osterhagen key and sits in front of the screens. She presses and holds down a button.]
MARTHA
This is Osterhagen station one. My name is Martha Jones, is there anyone there? Over.
[It cuts to the Crucible. Two ships fly in. Inside, a group of people are walking forwards in a line, hands behind their heads. They are being escorted by Daleks. SARAH JANE, MICKEY and JACKIE are amongst them.]
SARAH JANE
One step closer to the Doctor.
[It cuts to the Vault. DAVROS moves forwards.]
DAVROS
Activate the holding cells.
[A beam of light comes down from the ceilng, illuminating THE DOCTOR. A few feet to his right, another one lights up ROSE.]
DAVROS
Excellent. Even when powerless a Time Lord is best contained.
THE DOCTOR

[He reaches out a hand, and upon contact a circular blue wall of light appears around him. It disappears when he removes his hand. In the background, ROSE does the same.]
DAVROS
It is time we talked, Doctor, after so very long.
THE DOCTOR
No, no, no, no, we're not doing the nostalgia talk, I wanna know what's happening right here, right now. 'Cause the Supreme Dalek said 'Vault', yeah? As in dungeon. Cellar. Prison. You're not in charge of the Daleks, are you? They've got you locked away down here in the basement like what, a servant? Slave? Court jester?
DAVROS
We have... an arrangement.
THE DOCTOR
No, no, no, no, no, I've got the word. You're the Daleks' pet!
[DAVROS ignores him and moves towards ROSE.]
DAVROS
So very full of fire, is he not? And to think, you crossed entire universes, striding parallel to parallel to find him again.
THE DOCTOR
Leave her alone.
DAVROS
She is mine. To do as I please.
ROSE
Then why am I still alive?
DAVROS
You must be here, it was foretold, even the Supreme Dalek would not dare to contradict the prophecies of Dalek Caan.
[He flicks a switch on his wheelchair and DALEK CAAN is lit up.]
DALEK CAAN
So cold and dark, the fire is coming! The endless flames.
ROSE
What is that thing?
THE DOCTOR
You've met before. The last of the Cult of Skaro. But it flew into the Time War unprotected.
DAVROS
Caan did more than that. He saw time, its infinite complexity and majesty, raging through his mind. And, he saw you. Both of you.
DALEK CAAN
This I have foreseen. In the wild and the wind. The Doctor will be here. As witness, at the end of everything. The Doctor and his precious children of time!
[He laughs.]
DALEK CAAN
And one of them will die.
THE DOCTOR
Was it you, Caan? Did you kill Donna? Why did the TARDIS door close, tell me!
DAVROS
Oh, that's it. The anger. The fire. The rage of a Time Lord who butchered millions. There he is.
[THE DOCTOR stares darkly at ROSE.]
DAVROS
Why so shy? Show your companion. Show her your true self. Dalek Caan has promised me that too.
DALEK CAAN
I have seen, at the time of ending. The Doctor's soul will be revealed.
THE DOCTOR
What does that mean?
DAVROS
We will discover it together. Our final journey. Because the ending approaches. The testing begins.
THE DOCTOR
The testing of what?
DAVROS
The reality bomb.
[It cuts to some doors opening. A Dalek leads a group of people, all with their hands behind their heads, along in a line. Amongst them is SARAH JANE, MICKEY and JACKIE.]
DALEK
The prisoners will stand in the designated area.
[The prisoners gather in a group. A SCARED WOMAN falls to her knees. JACKIE tries to help her up.]
DALEK
You will stand.
SCARED WOMAN
I can't.
DALEK
You will stand.
[SARAH JANE turns and sees a door. She seizes her oppurtunity and runs over.]
SCARED WOMAN
I can't, please!
DALEK
On your feet! On your feet!
[SARAH JANE opens the door using her sonic lipstick then calls back to MICKEY.]
SARAH JANE
Mickey! Mickey!
[He turns, sees the open door and turns back to JACKIE.]
Mickey
Jackie!
[He runs over to SARAH JANE and the door closes. JACKIE is unable to sneak away. MICKEY watches through the window in the door, scared.]
MICKEY
We can't just leave her.
[He tries to open the door but SARAH JANE pulls him away.]
SARAH JANE
No you won't!
[A Dalek appears in front of the window, with its back to the door.]
SCARED WOMAN
What does it mean? What are they testing? What are they gonna do?
[JACKIE looks up and sees a massive alien green light above the prisoners.]
JACKIE
I reckon it's that thing there.
[All of the prisoners look up. On the bridge, the SUPREME DALEK gives out orders.]
SUPREME DALEK
Testing callibration of reality bomb. Firing in ten rels. 9, 8, 7.
[It cuts to the Vault. DAVROS is listening to the SUPREME DALEK over an inter-com system.]
DAVROS
Behold. The opotheosis of my genius.
[He flicks a switch on his wheelchair and a screen appears, showing the gathered prisoners.]
SUPREME DALEK
1, 0. Activate planetary alignment field.
[On board the TARDIS, it shakes and a crash can be heard. THE DOCTOR NO.2 looks at the planets on the console monitor.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
It's the planets. The twenty-seven planets.
[All of the planets appear to be alight with white fire. It cuts to inside the Vault.]
THE DOCTOR [Watching the screen]
But that's zed nutrino energy. Flattened by the alignment of the planets into a single string, no! Davros! Davros, you can't! You can't, no!
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 watches the planets on the monitor, his head resting in the palm of his hand. DONNA looks at the screen too.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Single string of zed nutrino's compressed into... no... no way.
[SARAH JANE and MICKEY watch JACKIE and the rest of the prisoners through the window. The green light above them glows and they are all lit up brightly. SARAH JANE continues to watch whilst MICKEY paces behind her. JACKIE glances at the prisoners around her and then at MICKEY. Something bleeps and he stops abruptly.]
MICKEY
Thirty minutes. It's recharged.
[He takes the dimension jump out of his pocket and holds it up in the window to JACKIE. He shouts to her, pointing at the yellow disc.]
MICKEY
Jackie, it's recharged, it's recharged, use it! Use it!
[JACKIE slowly reaches into her pocket and pulls out her own dimension jump disc. She turns to the SCARED WOMAN.]
JACKIE
I'm so sorry.
[She presses a button on the dimension jump and teleports to MICKEY and SARAH JANE. She hugs MICKEY tightly. All three of them turn and look out of the window. One by one, the prisoners dissolve into bright green dust before disappearing into nothing.]
DALEK
Test completed.
[On board the TARDIS, THE DOCTOR NO.2 stares at the monitor.]
DONNA
What was it? Doctor? What did it do?
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 doesn't answer her. It cuts to inside the Vault.]
ROSE
Doctor, what happened?
DAVROS
Electrical energy, Miss Tyler. Every atom in existence is bound by an electrical field. The reality bomb cancels it out, structure falls apart. That test was focused on the prisoners alone. Full transmission will dissolve every form of matter.
[THE DOCTOR watches DAVROS silently, shaking with barely-contained rage.]
ROSE
The stars are going out.
THE DOCTOR
The twenty-seven planets. They become one vast transmitter. Blasting that wavelength.
DAVROS
Across the entire universe. Never stopping, never faltering, never fading. People and planets and stars will become dust, and the dust will become atoms, and the atoms will become... nothing. And the wavelength will continue, breaking through the Rift at the heart of the Medusa Cascade, into every dimension, every parallel, every single corner of creation. This is my ultimate victory, Doctor! The destruction of reality itself!
[On the bridge.]
SUPREME DALEK
Prepare for universal detonation. The fleet will gather at the Crucible. All Daleks will return to shelter from the cataclysm! We will become the only lifeforms in existence!
[The ships attacking Earth fly away. In Chiswick, SYLVIA, WILF and other people in their street leave their houses, watching the spaceships flying away.]
SYLVIA
Look, they're leaving! Dad, they're going! The Daleks are going!
WILF
Going where though? And Donna's still out there. It's not over yet, sweetheart.
[It cuts to the spaceships assembling in formation around the Crucible. On board the ship, MICKEY, JACKIE and SARAH JANE peer out of the window. Suddenly, one of the wall panels breaks away and CAPTAIN JACK rolls into the room. They all turn around sharply to look at him. He gets up quickly.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Just my luck. I climb through two miles of ventilation shafts, chasing life signs on this thing [he closes his Vortex Manipulator] and who do I find? Mickey Mouse!
MICKEY
You can talk, Captain Cheesecake.
[They both laugh and hug each other.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Good to see you! And that's beefcake.
MICKEY
And that's enough hugging.
[He pulls away. CAPTAIN JACK chuckles then salutes to SARAH JANE.]
CAPTAIN JACK
We meet at last, Miss Smith.
SARAH JANE
There is something we can do. You've got to understand, I have a son, down there on Earth. He's only fourteen years old. I brought this.
[She pulls what appears to be a gold necklace out of her pocket. It has a small diamond on the end of a gold chain. It glows brightly.]
SARAH JANE
It was given to me by a Varun soothsayer. He said this, is for the end of days.
[She hands it to CAPTAIN JACK, who takes it reverently. He holds it up to get a better look at it.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Is that a Warpstar?
[She nods.]
MICKEY
Gonna tell me what a Warpstar is?
CAPTAIN JACK
A warp-fold conjugation trapped in a carbonised shell. It's an explosion, Mickey. An explosion waiting to happen.
[It cuts to inside the Osterhagen 1 pod. A CHINESE WOMAN appears on a small screen.]
CHINESE WOMAN
This is Osterhagen station 5, are you receiving, station 1?
MARTHA
I've got you. That makes three of us and three is all we need.
CHINESE WOMAN
My name is Anna Cho. What's yours?
MARTHA
Martha Jones. And what about you, station 4, you never said.
[Another small screen, with a man on it is labeled 'LIBERA.']
LIBERIAN MAN
I don't want my name on this. Given what we are about to do.
CHINESE WOMAN
So what happens now? Do we do it?
[MARTHA picks up the Osterhagen key and looks at it.]
MARTHA
No, not yet.
CHINESE WOMAN
UNIT instructions say once three Osterhagen stations are online-
MARTHA
Yeah well I've got a higher authority, way above UNIT. And there's one more thing the Doctor would do.
[It cuts to inside the TARDIS. THE DOCTOR NO.2 walks out from beneath the grating. Odd bits of technology are strewn across the floor. DONNA is holding some kind of contraption made out of bits and bobs from the TARDIS. THE DOCTOR NO.2 takes it off her and runs over to the console.]
DONNA
So what is this thing?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
It's our only hope, a zed nutrino biological conversion detaliser.
DONNA
Yeah, Earth-girl, remember?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Davros said he'd built those Daleks out of himself, his genetic code runs through the entire race. If I can use this to lock the Crucible's transmission onto Davros himself...
DONNA
It destroys the Daleks?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Biggest backfire in history.
[The Daleks turn away from something.]
DALEK
Incoming transmission. Origin: planet Earth.
SUPREME DALEK
Display.
[MARTHA appears on a screen on the bridge.]
MARTHA
This is Martha Jones, representing the Unified Intelligence Taskforce on behalf of the human race.
SUPREME DALEK
Send transmission to the Vault. Continue to monitor.
[The same screen appears in the Vault. They all turn to look at it.]
MARTHA
This message is for the Dalek Crucible, can you hear me? Repeat, can you hear me?
THE DOCTOR
Put me through!
DAVROS
It begins as Dalek Caan foretold.
DALEK CAAN
His children of time will gather, and one of them will die!
THE DOCTOR
Stop saying that, put me through!
MARTHA
Doctor! I'm sorry, I had to.
DAVROS
Oh, but the Doctor is powerless, my prisoner. State your intent.
MARTHA
I've got the Osterhagen key. Leave this planet and its people alone, or I'll use it.
THE DOCTOR
Osterhagen what? What's an Osterhagen key?
MARTHA
There's a chain of twenty-five nuclear warheads, placed in strategic points beneath the Earth's crust. If I use the key, they detonate and the Earth gets ripped apart.
THE DOCTOR
What?! Who invented that?! Well, someone called Osterhagen I suppose - Martha, are you insane?!
MARTHA
The Osterhagen key is to be used if the suffering of the human race is so great, so without hope... that this becomes the final option.
THE DOCTOR
That's never an option.
MARTHA
Don't argue with me, Doctor! 'Cause there's more than that. Now I reckon the Daleks need these twenty-seven planets for something, but what if it becomes twenty-six, what happens then? Daleks? Would you risk it?
ROSE
Ooh, she's good!
[ROSE grins and turns to THE DOCTOR, who merely glances darkly at her.]
MARTHA
Who's that?
ROSE
My name's Rose. Rose Tyler.
MARTHA
Oh my god... he found you...
[ROSE smiles and turns to THE DOCTOR, who says nothing.]
DALEK
Second transmission, internal.
SUPREME DALEK
Display.
[Another screen appears beside MARTHA's. It has CAPTAIN JACK, SARAH JANE, MICKEY and JACKIE all there. CAPTAIN JACK is holding up the Warpstar, which has now been wired up.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Captain Jack Harkness, calling all Dalek boys and girls, are you receiving me? Don't send in your goods or I'll set this thing off.
ROSE
He's still alive! Oh my god, that's my mum!
THE DOCTOR
Mickey, Captain, what are you doing?
CAPTAIN JACK
I've got a Warpstar wired into the mainframe. I break the shell, the entire Crucible goes up.
THE DOCTOR
You can't! Where did you get a Warpstar?!
SARAH JANE
From me! We had no choice, we saw what happened to the prisoners!
DAVROS
Impossible... that face. After all these years.
SARAH JANE
Davros... it's been quite a while. Sarah Jane Smith, remember?!
DAVROS
Oh, this is meant to be. The circle of time is closing, you were there on Skaro at the very beginning of my creation.
SARAH JANE
And I've learnt how to fight since then, you let the Doctor go, or this Warpstar, it gets opened!
[THE DOCTOR is staring at the ground, broken.]
CAPTAIN JACK
I'll do it. Don't imagine I wouldn't.
ROSE
Now that's what I call a ransom. [She turns and sees THE DOCTOR's expression] Doctor?
DAVROS
And the prophecy unfolds.
DALEK CAAN
The Doctor's soul is revealed, see him, see the heart of him! [He laughs manically]
DAVROS
The man who abhorrs violence, never carrying a gun, but this is the truth, Doctor. You take ordinary people and you fashion them into weapons. Behold your children of time, transformed into murderers. I made the Daleks, Doctor. You made this.
THE DOCTOR
They're trying to help.
DAVROS
Already I have seen them sacrifice today. For their beloved Doctor. The Earth woman who fell opening the sub-wave network.
THE DOCTOR
Who was that?
ROSE
Harriet Jones. She gave her life to get you here.
[There is a flashback of Harriet facing the three Daleks. Flashback ends.]
DAVROS
How many more, just think, how many have died in your name?
[THE DOCTOR begins to have flashbacks of all the people who have died. Jabe, the Controller, Lynda, Sir Robert, Mrs. Moore, Mr. Skinner, Ursula, Bridget, the Face of Boe, Chantho, Astrid Peth, Luke Rattigan, Jenny, River Song and the Hostess. THE DOCTOR is visibly shaken.]
DAVROS
The Doctor, the man who keeps running. Never looking back because he dare not, out of shame. This is my final victory, Doctor. I have shown you yourself.
[It cuts to the bridge.]
SUPREME DALEK
Enough! Engage defence 05.
MARTHA
It's the Crucible or the Earth.
DALEK
Transmat engaged.
[MARTHA and the others are all transmatted to the Vault, leaving both the Osterhagen key and the Warpstar behind.]
THE DOCTOR
Don't move, all of you, stay still!
DAVROS
Guard them! On your knees, all of you. Surrender!
THE DOCTOR
Do as he says.
[They all get on their knees.]
ROSE [Addressing JACKIE.]
Mum, I told you not to!
JACKIE
Yeah well I couldn't leave you.
DAVROS
The final prophecy is in place. The Doctor and his children all gathered as witnesses. Supreme Dalek, the time has come. Now, detonate the reality bomb!
[It cuts to outside the Crucible, where all of the Dalek fleets are assembled. A much larger version of the green light opens up on the exterior of the Crucible. It cuts to the SUPREME DALEK at the bridge.]
SUPREME DALEK
Activate planetary alignment field.
[It shows all of the planets, illuminated in white fire.]
SUPREME DALEK
Universal reality detonation in 200 rels.
[It cuts to inside the Vault.]
THE DOCTOR
You can't, Davros, just listen to me! Just stop!
[It shows the reality bomb opening up fully. It cuts to back inside the Vault. DAVROS laughs insanely.]
DAVROS
Nothing can stop the detonation! Nothing! And no one!
[He laughs maniacally. It cuts to inside the TARDIS. THE DOCTOR NO.2 holds up the detaliser, shaking it.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Ready! Maximum power!
[He pushes a lever on the bottom of the console with his foot, then presses another lever on the console with his hand. The TARDIS tilts, and he falls onto the chair. Inside the Vault, the TARDIS begins to materialise. THE DOCTOR, DAVROS and all of the companions all turn in shock. CAPTAIN JACK stands, smiling. SARAH JANE looks around in disbelief.]
THE DOCTOR
But that's...
[DAVROS turns fully. DALEK CAAN giggles. ROSE watches the TARDIS incredulously. MARTHA watches, awestruck. DAVROS moves to face the TARDIS.]
DAVROS
Impossible.
[It materialises fully. THE DOCTOR NO.2 opens the door. He is holding the detaliser in his hand, and the TARDIS behind him is glowing bright white.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Brilliant...
[THE DOCTOR watches THE DOCTOR NO.2 in confusion and disbelief. DAVROS sees THE DOCTOR NO.2's expression of anger and moves backwards. THE DOCTOR NO.2 runs forward with the detaliser. DAVROS recoils. The companions all stand.]
THE DOCTOR
Don't!
[DAVROS holds out a finger, and blue electricity shoots out and hits THE DOCTOR NO.2 in the chest. He drops the detaliser and, with a gasp of pain, falls to the floor. The happy, excited expressions fade from SARAH JANE and MICKEY's faces. THE DOCTOR NO.2 lies on the floor, gasping.]
DAVROS
Activate holding cell.
[A blue holding cell appears down from the ceiling around DOCTOR NO.2. He looks up. DONNA runs out of the TARDIS.]
DONNA
Doctor!
[She runs over and grabs the detaliser.]
DONNA
I've got it!
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 gets to his feet.]
DONNA
But I don't know what to do!
[DAVROS holds out a finger and DONNA is knocked through the air, dropping the detaliser. She collides with the central control panel.]
THE DOCTOR
Donna! Donna, are you alright, Donna?!
[DAVROS smiles.]
DAVROS
Destroy the weapon.
[A Dalek shoots at the detaliser, and it sparks and smokes.]
DAVROS
I was wrong about your warriors, Doctor. They are pathetic.
[He moves towards THE DOCTOR.]
ROSE
How comes there are two of you?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Human biological metacrisis.
THE DOCTOR
Never mind that, now we've got no way of stopping the reality bomb.
[It cuts to the bridge.]
SUPREME DALEK
Detonation in 20 rels. Nineteen.
[It cuts to the Vault.]
DAVROS
Stand witness, Time Lord. Stand witness, humans.
[He flicks a switch and a screen appears, showing the planets on fire.]
DAVROS
Your strategies have failed, your weapons are useless, and, oh... the end of the universe has come.
SUPREME DALEK V/O
Nine, eight, seven.
[It shows SARAH JANE and THE DOCTOR and DONNA sitting up by the control panel, dazed. ROSE watches THE DOCTOR anxiously as the countdown continues around them.]
SUPREME DALEK V/O
Three, two, one.
[There is a powering-down sound, and the screen disappears. An alarm goes off. THE DOCTOR turns, startled. Everyone looks around in confusion. At the control panel, DONNA is standing over the controls, smug.]
DONNA
Oooh, closing all zed nutrino relay loops using an internalised synchronous backfeed reversal loop.
[She flicks a switch.]
DONNA
That button there!
[She grins. The Daleks all turn.]
DALEK
System in shutdown.
SUPREME DALEK
Detonation negative. Explain! Explain! Explain!
[It cuts to inside the Vault. THE DOCTOR is watching DONNA, stunned.]
THE DOCTOR
Donna, you can't even change a plug.
DONNA [Beaming]
D'you wanna bet, Time Boy?
DAVROS
You'll suffer for this.
[DONNA tilts her head and presses a lever. DAVROS' electricity backfires up his arm, electrocuting him. He screams. He stares at his hand.]
DONNA
Ooooh, bio-electric dampening field with a retrobasive L-conversion.
DAVROS
Exterminate her!
[He turns to a Dalek beside him then points at DONNA.]
DALEK
Exterminate!
[THE DOCTOR glances at the Dalek and then at DONNA in alarm. She continues to tap away at the control panel. The Daleks advance on her, all crying 'Exterminate'. CAPTAIN JACK turns. DONNA continues to tap away at the silver levers. There is a powering-down sound, and just as all of the Daleks' guns turn on her, nothing happens. She raises her eyebrows. All of the Daleks move their guns and look at them.]
DALEK
Weapons non-functional!
DONNA
What? Macro-transmission filkater wavelength blocking Dalek weaponry and self-replicating a new byfold matrix!
THE DOCTOR
How did you work that out? You're...
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Time Lord. Part Time Lord.
DONNA
Part human! Oh yes. That was a two-way biological metacrisis.
[There's a flashback of DONNA touching THE DOCTOR's hand and absorbing the regeneration energy. Flashback ends.]
DONNA
Half Doctor, half Donna!
THE DOCTOR
The DoctorDonna. Just like the Ood said, remember, they saw it coming. The DoctorDonna.
[She smiles.]
DONNA
Holding cells deactivated. And seal the Vault.
[She presses some buttons. The holding cells containing THE DOCTOR, ROSE and THE DOCTOR NO.2 are lifted.]
DONNA
Well, don't just stand there you skinny boys in suits. Get to work!
[Both of the Doctors run over to the control panel.]
DAVROS
Stop them! Get her away from the controls!
[The Daleks all advance, but DONNA flicks a lever. She twists a dial.]
DONNA
Aaaaand spin.
[All of the Daleks begin to spin.]
DALEK
Help me. Help me.
[CAPTAIN JACK laughs.]
DONNA
And the other way.
[They begin to rotate the other way.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
What did you do?
DONNA
Lipstick in the circuit breaker, in the sikinetic threshold manipulator.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
But that's brilliant!
THE DOCTOR
Why did we never think of that?
DONNA
Because you two were just Time Lords, you dumbos! Lacking that little bit of human, that gut instinct that comes hand-in-hand with planet Earth, I could think of ideas you two couldn't dream of in a million years. Aw, the universe has been waiting for me! Now, let's send that trip signal all over the ship. [She gets ready to type, pauses and looks up, pointing to herself] Did I ever tell you? Best temp in Chiswick. [She waggles her fingers] Hundred words per minute! [She begins typing.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2 [Grinning]
Ha!
[The Daleks are all spinning, talking at once. It cuts to the bridge.]
SUPREME DALEK
What is happening? Explain!
[It cuts to the Vault. CAPTAIN JACK runs off into the TARDIS.]
DONNA
Come on then, boys, we've got twenty-seven planets to send home. Activate magnatron.
[DAVROS advances on them.]
DAVROS
Stop this at once!
[CAPTAIN JACK steps out of the TARDIS, holding the two guns.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Mickey!
[He throws ROSE's gun to him, who catches it.]
DAVROS
You will desist!
[MICKEY runs forward and points the gun directly at DAVROS, blocking his path towards DONNA.]
MICKEY
Just stay where you are, mister.
[CAPTAIN JACK is holding his own gun. A Dalek spins over to him, but he kicks it out of the way.]
CAPAIN JACK
Out of the way!
[SARAH JANE and ROSE push one Dalek out of the way.]
SARAH JANE
Good to see you again!
ROSE
Thanks, you too!
[The Dalek crashes into a wall. MARTHA also pushes a Dalek away.]
DONNA
Ready? And reverse!
[They each pull a set of levers and the twenty-seven planets disappear, one by one.]
THE DOCTOR
Off you go, Clom.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Back home Adipose 3!
DONNA
Shallakatop, Pyrovilia and the Lost Moon of Poosh!
[She kicks one lever with her foot.]
DONNA
Sorted! Ha!
[THE DOCTOR smiles at her.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Ha!
THE DOCTOR
We've got power.
[The planets continue to disappear.]
ROSE [Addressing DONNA]
Is anyone gonna tell us what's going on?
DONNA [Pointing at THE DOCTOR]
He poured all of his regeneration energy into his spare hand, I touched the hand, he grew out of that [THE DOCTOR NO.2 grins] but that fed back into me, but, it just lay dormant, in my head, until the synapses just got that little extra spark, kicking them into life, thank you Davros!
[There is a flashback of DAVROS electrocuting DONNA. It shows DONNA sitting up, recovering. Her eyes glow golden. Flashback ends.]
DONNA

[THE DOCTOR NO.2 raises his eyebrows.]
DONNA
I got his mind.
SARAH JANE
So there's three of you?
ROSE [Smiling]
Three Doctors?
CAPTAIN JACK
I can't tell you what I'm thinking right now. [He shakes his head and looks away.]
THE DOCTOR [Addressing DONNA]
You're so unique the timelines were converging on you. Human being with a Time Lord brain.
[DAVROS turns to address DALEK CAAN, MICKEY still pointing the gun at him.]
DAVROS
But you promised me, Dalek Caan. Why did you not foresee this?
[DALEK CAAN giggles maniacally.]
THE DOCTOR
Oh I think he did. Something's been manipulating the timelines for ages. Getting Donna Noble to the right place at the right time.
DALEK CAAN
This would always have happened. I only helped Doctor.
DAVROS
You betrayed the Daleks.
DALEK CAAN
I saw the Daleks. What we have done throughout time and space, I saw the truth of us, creator, and I decreed no more.
[On the bridge.]
SUPREME DALEK
I will descend to the Vault.
[He drops down into the Vault. CAPTAIN JACK sees him and points his gun.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Heads up!
SUPREME DALEK
Davros, you have betrayed us.
DAVROS
It was Dalek Caan.
SUPREME DALEK
The Vault will be purged, you will all be exterminated.
[He shoots a bolt at the control panel. THE DOCTOR falls back from the sudden explosion of sparks and smoke.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Like I was saying, feel this!
[He shoots the SUPREME DALEK and he explodes. THE DOCTOR gets back to the control panel, wiping the smoke away.]
THE DOCTOR
Oh, we've lost the magnatron. And there's only one planet left, oh, guess which one! But we can use the TARDIS!
[He runs inside the TARDIS and begins to press levers and buttons. Back at the control panel, THE DOCTOR NO.2 flicks some switches on top of the control panel.]
THE DOCTOR
Holding stability. Maintaining atmospheric shell.
DALEK CAAN
The prophecy must complete.
DAVROS
Don't listen to him.
DALEK CAAN
I have seen the end of everything Dalek, and you must make it happen, Doctor.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
He's right. 'Cause with or without a reality bomb this Dalek empire's big enough to slaughter the cosmos. They've gotta be stopped!
DONNA
But just, just wait for the Doctor.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
I am the Doctor. [He begins to push levers] Maximising Dalekanium power feeds, blasting them back!
[All of the Daleks explode, one by one. THE DOCTOR feels the Crucible shake from inside the TARDIS. He runs back outside and sees all of the Daleks exploding.]
THE DOCTOR
What have you done?!
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Fulfilling the prophecy.
[All of the Dalek ships around the Crucible also begin to explode. Inside the Hub, the Dalek in the entrance also explodes, showering GWEN and IANTO in debris.]
GWEN
There goes the timelock.
[It cuts to the Vault. Inside, the whole Vault is being destroyed as the Crucible breaks up.]
THE DOCTOR [Furious]
D'you know what you've done?! Now get in the TARDIS!
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 glares at him for a moment before running inside.]
THE DOCTOR
Everyone!
[DONNA runs inside.]
THE DOCTOR
All of you, inside, run! Run, run, run, run, run!
[MARTHA runs in, followed by SARAH JANE, ROSE, JACKIE, CAPTAIN JACK and MICKEY. THE DOCTOR NO.2 ushers them in from inside the TARDIS.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Sarah Jane, Rose, Jackie, Jack, Mickey!
[Inside the Vault, an explosion goes off. Fiery debris falls from the ceiling, barring THE DOCTOR's path to DAVROS. Admist the fire and sparks, THE DOCTOR tries to reach DAVROS.]
THE DOCTOR
Davros! Come with me! I promise, I can save you!
DAVROS [Hysterical]
Never forget, Doctor. You did this! I name you, forever! You are the Destroyer of Worlds! [He screams]
[THE DOCTOR simply stares at DAVROS through the fire, the words hitting him hard.]
DALEK CAAN [Feebly, dying]
One will still die...
[THE DOCTOR slowly turns and runs back into the TARDIS. His companions and his metacrisis self are all positioned around the TARDIS console.]
THE DOCTOR
And, off we go!
[He pulls a lever down and everybody grabs onto the console for support as it shakes. Just as it dematerialises, the whole Crucible is completely obliterated.]
SARAH JANE
And what about the Earth? It's stuck in the wrong part of space!
THE DOCTOR
I'm on it, [He turns to the monitor] Torchwood Hub, this is the Doctor, are you receiving me?
[It cuts to inside the Hub.]
GWEN
Loud and clear. Is Jack there?
THE DOCTOR
Can't get rid of him. Jack, what's her name?
CAPTAIN JACK
Gwen Cooper.
THE DOCTOR
Tell me, Gwen Cooper, are you from an old Cardiff family?
GWEN [Turning to IANTO, confused]
... Yes. All the way back to the 1800s.
[THE DOCTOR and ROSE grin to each other.]
THE DOCTOR
Ah, I thought so. Spacial genetic modificity, yeah, yeah, it's a funny old world, now, Torchwood, I want you to open up that Rift manipulator and send all the power to me.
IANTO
Doing it now, sir.
GWEN
What's that for?
THE DOCTOR
It's a tow-rope, now then, Sarah, what was your son's name?
SARAH JANE
Luke, he's called Luke, and the computer's called Mr. Smith.
THE DOCTOR
Calling Luke and Mr. Smith, this is the Doctor. Come on Luke, shake a leg.
[LUKE, who had previously been sitting on the attic floor, runs over to MR. SMITH.]
LUKE
Is mum there?
[SARAH JANE cheers.]
THE DOCTOR
Oh she's fine and dandy now, Mr. Smith I want you to harness the Rift power and loop it around the TARDIS.
MR. SMITH
I regret, I will need remote access to TARDIS basecode numerals.
THE DOCTOR
Oh, blimey, that's gonna take a while.
SARAH JANE [Running over to the monitor]
No, no, no, no, let me! K-9, out you come!
[K-9 teleports in.]
K-9
Affirmative, mistress.
THE DOCTOR
Oh, good dog, K-9, give Mr. Smith the basecode.
K-9
Yes, master. TARDIS basecode now being transferred.
[He attaches his sensor to a button on MR. SMITH. Billions of numbers appear across the screen.]
K-9
The process is simple.
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 and CAPTAIN JACK both grin.]
THE DOCTOR
Now then, you lot, Sarah, hold that, and Mickey, you hold that, 'cause you know why this TARDIS is always rattling about the place, Rose, that there, it's designed to have six pilots and I have to do it single-handed, Martha, keep that level, but not anymore! Jack, there you go, steady that, now we can fly this thing-
[He walks all the way around the console, indicating various buttons and levers for each of his companions to operate. He comes full circle and stops mid-speech when he sees JACKIE.]
THE DOCTOR
No, Jackie, no, no, not you, don't touch anything, just... stand back.
[He presses a hand to her shoulder then stands back to address all of his companions. MICKEY shrugs to JACKIE.]
THE DOCTOR
Like it's meant to be flown! We've got the Torchwood Rift looped around the TARDIS by Mr. Smith. We are gonna fly planet Earth back home.
[He runs over to take up his own position at the console, grinning.]
THE DOCTOR
Right then. Off we go.
[Sure enough, it cuts to a tiny blue police box tugging the Earth along an invisible tow-rope. It starts off slowly, then it zooms off at lightspeed. Inside SARAH JANE's attic, LUKE is cheering and hugging K-9 whilst the room shakes and paper and books fly everywhere. Inside the Torchwood Hub, GWEN and IANTO are clinging onto metal poles as the room shakes around them. They are both screaming and cheering. In Chiswick, DONNA's kitchen shakes and things shatter and break around her mum and grandad. SYLVIA clings onto WILF as he looks around in confusion. It cuts to FRANCINE's house. She is sitting under her table whilst the room shakes and things crash to the floor around her. It cuts back to the Earth being pulled through space by the TARDIS. Inside the TARDIS, everything is calm. All of the companions stick to their allotted buttons and DONNA is walking around the console, watching them. Everyone is happy, it's a joyful mood. THE DOCTOR smiles at ROSE and indicates a button for her to press. MARTHA gives a nervous grin to the camera and turns back to the rotor. CAPTAIN JACK is pumping a lever. He smiles at MARTHA. SARAH JANE slowly pushes a lever around. THE DOCTOR surveys all of his companions, grinning. DONNA walks past CAPTAIN JACK, smiling.]
DONNA
That's really good, Jack, I think you're the best.
[JACKIE laughs. DONNA walks over to stand beside THE DOCTOR NO.2 and they both laugh together. The Earth finally stops and the TARDIS flies away from it, spinning to a halt beside it, flying past the moon. Inside the TARDIS, everyone stands back from the console and begin to clap and cheer. MARTHA screams in delight and hugs DONNA, MICKEY and CAPTAIN JACK high-five, THE DOCTOR NO.2 hugs SARAH JANE, THE DOCTOR hugs DONNA, MICKEY hugs SARAH JANE, who then hugs CAPTAIN JACK. THE DOCTOR interrupts a hug between ROSE and MARTHA in order to hug them both. Everything is cheerful and perfect. DONNA grabs SARAH JANE and shoves her away from CAPTAIN JACK and hugs him herself. He laughs in surprise. ROSE hugs JACKIE and back on Earth, SYLVIA pushes the curtains back to reveal a bright sunny day. She hugs WILF and they dance around the room in joy, cheering and whooping. On TV, a headline reads 'EARTH RETURNS HOME' and fireworks and balloons are being let off along the Thames. FRANCINE walks outside to see the sun and spins around in delight, grinning. It cuts to the TARDIS landing in a park. Church bells can be heard in the distance. Children are playing in the playground. Everything's as it should be. SARAH JANE exits the TARDIS with THE DOCTOR, smiling. She steps out and smiles up at the sun, then turns to face THE DOCTOR, grinning.]
SARAH JANE
You know, you act like such a lonely man. But look at you! You've got the biggest family on Earth.
[THE DOCTOR smiles. She hugs him. She suddenly gasps and backs away.]
SARAH JANE
I've gotta go! He's only fourteen. Oh, it's a long story. And thank you!
[THE DOCTOR smiles and waves. She grins and waves back before turning and running away. Inside the TARDIS, DONNA walks past speaking into her mobile.]
DONNA
Yeah I'm fine, are you alright?
[She walks past MICKEY and JACKIE, who are having a conversation. MICKEY seems sad.]
MICKEY
I'm gonna miss you. More than anyone.
JACKIE
What d'you mean? The Doctor's gonna take us home, isn't he?
MICKEY
Well that's the point.
[He hugs her. It cuts to outside the TARDIS. THE DOCTOR is using the sonic screwdriver to disable CAPTAIN JACK's Vortex Manipulator. He presses a few buttons. CAPTAIN JACK is standing beside MARTHA.]
THE DOCTOR
I told you, no teleport.
[He puts the screwdriver away.]
THE DOCTOR
And Martha, get rid of that Osterhagen thing, eh? Save the world one more time.
MARTHA
Consider it done.
[She smiles brightly. CAPTAIN JACK salutes THE DOCTOR. He raises his eyebrows, and MARTHA also salutes him. He offers them a small salute in return. They smile and walk away hand-in-hand.]
CAPTAIN JACK
You know, I'm not sure about UNIT these days. Maybe there's something else you could be doing.
[MICKEY steps out of the TARDIS. He salutes as he passes THE DOCTOR without turning back.]
THE DOCTOR
Oi! Where you going?
MICKEY
Well I'm not stupid, I can work out what happens next. And hey I had a good time in that parallel world but, my gran passed away. Nice and peaceful. Spent her last years living in a mansion. There's nothing there for me now. And certainly not Rose.
THE DOCTOR
What'll you do?
[MICKEY grins and shrugs.]
MICKEY
Anything! Brand new life. Just you watch.
[They thump fists.]
MICKEY
Cya, boss.
[He winks and runs to catch up with CAPTAIN JACK and MARTHA.]
MICKEY
Hey you two!
[They turn back and wait for him then continue walking.]
CAPTAIN JACK
Oh, I thought I got rid of you.
[It cuts back to THE DOCTOR who resignedly enters the TARDIS. He walks over to the console.]
THE DOCTOR
Just time for one last trip. [He flicks some switches.] Dårlig Ulv Stranden. [He glances over at THE DOCTOR NO.2] Better known as...
Bad Wolf Bay
[It pans across the beach, and the TARDIS materialises. JACKIE gets out and sees where they've landed. She is followed out by THE DOCTOR NO.2 and ROSE.]
JACKIE
Oh, fat lot of good this is. Back of beyond, bloody Norway. [She turns back to ROSE.] I'm gonna have to phone your father. He's on the nursery run.
[She addresses THE DOCTOR NO.2 as DONNA and THE DOCTOR exit the TARDIS.]
JACKIE
I was pregnant, do you remember? Had a baby boy.
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Aw brilliant, what d'you call him?
JACKIE
Doctor.
THE DOCTOR NO.2 [Touched]
Really?
JACKIE [Grinning]
No, you plum. He's called Tony.
ROSE [Addressing THE DOCTOR]
Hold on, this is the parallel universe, right?
THE DOCTOR
You're back home.
DONNA
And the walls of the world are closing again. Now that the reality bomb never happened. It's dimensional retroclosure.
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 smiles.]
DONNA
See I really get that stuff now.
ROSE [Teary, distraught]
No, but I spent all that time trying to find you, I'm not going back now!
THE DOCTOR
But you've got to. 'Cause we saved the universe, but at a cost. [He glances over at THE DOCTOR NO.2.] And the cost is him. He destroyed the Daleks, he committed genocide. He's too dangerous to be left on his own.
THE DOCTOR NO.2 [Indignant]
You made me!
THE DOCTOR
Exactly, you were born in battle, full of blood and anger and revenge. [He addresses ROSE, his voice becoming softer.] Remind you of someone?
[She turns away, looking out at the sea.]
THE DOCTOR
That's me, when we first met.
[She turns back to look at him, her eyes tear-filled.]
THE DOCTOR
And you made me better. Now you can do the same for him.
[She blinks back tears.]
ROSE
But he's not you.
THE DOCTOR
He needs you. That's very me.
DONNA
But it's better than that though! Don't you see what he's trying to give you? Tell her, go on!
[ROSE turns to face THE DOCTOR NO.2.]
THE DOCTOR NO.2
I look like him, I think like him. Same memories, same thoughts, same everything. Except I've only got one heart.
ROSE
Which means?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
I'm part human. Specifically the aging part. I'll grow old and never regenerate. I've only got one life, Rose Tyler. I could spend it with you. If you want.
ROSE [Hardly daring to believe it]
You'll grow old at the same time as me?
THE DOCTOR NO.2
Together.
[He smiles. ROSE shakes her head in disbelief, almost smiling before reaching out for his chest. She feels his one heartbeat. THE DOCTOR and DONNA smile. The TARDIS groans and the light flashes. ROSE turns.]
THE DOCTOR
We gotta go. This reality's sealing itself off.
[Tears stream down ROSE's cheeks.]
THE DOCTOR
Forever.
[He and DONNA turn to walk away. ROSE runs over to him.]
ROSE
But... it's still not right! 'Cause the Doctor's... still you.
THE DOCTOR
And I'm him.
ROSE
Alright. Both of you, answer me this.
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 walks over to her.]
ROSE [Addressing THE DOCTOR.]
When I last stood on this beach, on the worst day of my life, what was the last thing you said to me? Go on, say it!
THE DOCTOR
I said Rose Tyler.
ROSE
Yeah, and how was that sentence gonna end?
THE DOCTOR [Irritated]
Does it need saying?
[ROSE turns to THE DOCTOR NO.2.]
ROSE
And you, Doctor? What was the end of that sentence?
[THE DOCTOR NO.2 reaches for her arm, then leans over and whispers in her ear. THE DOCTOR watches them. THE DOCTOR NO.2 pulls away to look at ROSE. She hesitates, then grabs his lapels and kisses him. THE DOCTOR turns away and walks into the TARDIS, followed by DONNA. ROSE gasps and pulls away as she hears the TARDIS door close. She runs over as the TARDIS begins to dematerialise. THE DOCTOR NO.2 slowly walks over to her and takes her hand. They turn to face each other. It cuts to inside the TARDIS, where DONNA is looking at the monitor, smiling. She stands back, hands behind her back. THE DOCTOR is stood by a coral support, watching her.]
DONNA
I thought we'd try the planet Felspoon. Just 'cause.
[THE DOCTOR nods sadly.]
DONNA
What a good name, Felspoon, apparently it's got mountains that sway in the breeze, mountains that move! Can you imagine? [She twists a dial on the console.]
THE DOCTOR [Melancholy]
And how do you know that?
DONNA
Because it's in your head, and if it's in your head, it's in mine!
THE DOCTOR
And how does that feel?
DONNA
Brilliant, fantastic, molte bene! Great big universe packed into my brain! You know you could fix that chameleon circuit if you just tried hotbinding the fragment links and superceding the binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary binary- [She gasps] I'm fine!
[She forces a grin and walks over to the console. THE DOCTOR watches her sadly.]
DONNA
Nah, never mind Felspoon, you know who I wanna meet? Charlie Chaplin! I bet he's great, Charlie Chaplin. Shall we do that? Shall we go and see Charlie, shall we? [She picks up the phone and speaks into it before putting it down.] Charlie Chaplin! Charlie Chester, Charlie Brown, no he's fiction, friction, fiction, fixen, mixen, rixten, brixten. [She takes a deep breath and leans against the console, breathing heavily and holding her head. THE DOCTOR walks over to her.]
DONNA
Oh my god...
THE DOCTOR
Do you know what's happening?
[She shakily removes her hand and looks up, all human defiance.]
DONNA
Yeah.
THE DOCTOR
There's never been a human-Time Lord metacrisis before now.
[She turns to face him, teary-eyed.]
THE DOCTOR
And you know why.
DONNA
Because there can't be.
[She sniffs and walks away from him, her voice breaking with emotion.]
DONNA
I want to stay.
[THE DOCTOR follows her and leans in close.]
THE DOCTOR
Look at me.
[She purposefully avoids his gaze.]
THE DOCTOR
Donna, look at me.
[Shaking, she turns to face him. Her eyes are red and teary. She sounds broken.]
DONNA [Numb]
I was gonna be with you... forever.
THE DOCTOR
I know.
DONNA
The rest of my life. Travelling... in the TARDIS. The DoctorDonna.
[She backs away as THE DOCTOR approaches her slowly, shaking her head.]
DONNA [Frantic, but still numb. She begins to sob.]
I can't go back!
[THE DOCTOR grips each of her arms.]
DONNA
Please don't make me go back! Doctor! Please! Please don't make me go back!
THE DOCTOR
Donna. Oh, Donna Noble. I am so sorry.
THE DOCTOR
But we had the best of times.
DONNA
No...
THE DOCTOR
The best.
[Tears stream down DONNA's cheeks. Shaking, she looks down then turns up to look him in the eye.]
THE DOCTOR
Goodbye.
DONNA
No. No, please, no!
[He puts his fingers on her temples.]
DONNA
Please, no! No! No!
[He closes his eyes. Flashbacks of DONNA's life with THE DOCTOR come up. Her in UNIT, her being teleported out of the TARDIS, her hugging her husband from the Library computer, her hiding from the Sontarans, her in the Library, her smiling on Messaline, her exiting the TARDIS in her '40s outfit, her holding her head at the UNIT base, her crying on the Ood-Sphere, her grinning in the TARDIS, her teary-eyed beneath Vesuvius, her crying after witnessing the eruption of Pompeii, her pointing to herself at Adipose Industries, turning around in the TARDIS for the first time as a bride. Flashbacks end.]
DONNA
No!
[She collapses into THE DOCTOR's arms. He closes his eyes and holds her tightly, clearly upset. It cuts to Chiswick. There is a frantic knocking on the door. WILF hurries to answer it.]
WILF
That must be Donna! Donna! Haha!
[He runs over and unlocks the door. He opens it, to see the TARDIS parked across the street and THE DOCTOR sitting on the floor, an unconscious DONNA cradled in his arms.]
THE DOCTOR [Frantic]
Help me!
WILF [Worried]
Donna? Donna?
[He kneels to help THE DOCTOR. It cuts to DONNA lying on her bed, arms neatly folded across her stomach. THE DOCTOR and WILF are stood back, watching her. It cuts to downstairs. THE DOCTOR sits in an armchair, explaining things to WILF and SYLVIA.]
THE DOCTOR
She took my mind into her own head. But that's a Time Lord consciousness. All that knowledge, it was killing her.
WILF
But she'll get better now.
THE DOCTOR
I had to wipe her mind completely. Every trace of me or the TARDIS. Anything we did together, anywhere we went... had to go.
WILF [His voice breaking with emotion.]
All those wonderful things she did.
THE DOCTOR
I know. But that version of Donna is dead. 'Cause if she remembers, just for a second, she'll burn up. You can never tell her. You can't mention me, or any of it. For the rest of her life.
SYLVIA
But the whole world's talking about it. We've travelled across space.
THE DOCTOR
It'll just be a story. One of those Donna Noble stories where she missed it all again.
WILF
But she was better with you!
SYLVIA
Don't say that!
WILF
No she was!
THE DOCTOR
I just want you to know that there are worlds out there, safe in the sky because of her. And there are people living in the light, and singing songs of Donna Noble. A thousand million light years away. They will never forget her. While she can never remember. And for one moment, one shining moment, she was the most important woman in the whole wide universe.
SYLVIA [Proudly]
She still is. She's my daughter.
THE DOCTOR [Slightly angry]
Then maybe you should tell her that once in a while.
[DONNA suddenly barges into the room, breaking the tension.]
DONNA
I was asleep, on my bed, in my clothes like a flippin' kid, what d'you let me do that for?
[She begins to tap into her mobile. She glances over at THE DOCTOR.]
DONNA
Don't mind me, Donna.
[He gets up with a forced smile and shakes her hand.]
THE DOCTOR
John Smith.
SYLVIA
Mr. Smith was just leaving.
DONNA [Excitedly showing him her phone]
My phone's gone mad, thirty-two texts, Veena's gone barmy, she's saying planets in the sky, what have I missed now? Nice to meet you.
[She walks out. THE DOCTOR nods and smiles falsely.]
SYLVIA
As I said. I think you should go.
[He glances at WILF and SYVLIA. It cuts to DONNA in the kitchen, speaking into her mobile as she potters around the kitchen.]
DONNA
How thick do you think I am? Planets? Tell you what that was, dumbo, that's those two-for-one lagers you get down the offy, you fancy that little man with the goatee. Haha! Yes you do!
[THE DOCTOR enters the kitchen, unbeknownst to DONNA.]
DONNA
I've seen you!
THE DOCTOR
Donna? I was just going.
DONNA [Uncaring, coldly]
Yeah, see ya.
[She returns to her phone conversation, completely oblivious.]
DONNA
I'll you what though, you're wasting your time with that one. 'Cause Susie Mare, she went on that dating site and she saw him!
[THE DOCTOR turns to glance back at her before leaving.]
DONNA
No, but l- No, no, but listen, this is important, Susie Mare wouldn't lie! Not unless it was about calories!
[She laughs hysterically. It cuts to outside. It is raining heavily. WILF opens the door to let THE DOCTOR out.]
THE DOCTOR
Ah, you'll have quite a bit of this. Atmospheric disturbance. Still it'll pass. Everything does. [He turns back to WILF.] Bye then Wilfred.
[They shake hands and THE DOCTOR steps out into the rain.]
WILF
No but Doctor. What about you now? Who have you got? I mean, all those friends of yours.
THE DOCTOR
They've all got someone else. Still that's fine. I'm fine.
WILF
I'll watch out for you, sir.
THE DOCTOR
You can't ever tell her!
WILF
No, no. But every night, Doctor. When it gets dark. And the stars come out. I'll look up. On her behalf. I'll look up at the sky. And think of you.
THE DOCTOR [Moved]
Thank you.
[He turns and walks into the TARDIS. WILF salutes as the TARDIS dematerialises, before closing the door. It cuts to inside the TARDIS. He removes his suit jacket and stares at the rotor for a while. He walks around the TARDIS, flicking switches, before stopping and staring straight ahead, dejected.]
